Barbara Young

Barbara Young's collection includes documentation of exhibitions organized throughout the Miami Dade Public Library System. This includes brochures, catalogs, photographs, newspaper clippings, and ephemera. Her archives offer us a critical insight into the visionary programming Young offered to Miami and gives us a unique into the art historical activities of Miami-Dade from the late 70s to the early 2000s.

Barbara Young - Biography
Barbara N. Young received a BA in art history from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in library and information science from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA. As art librarian, curator, and art services supervisor for the Miami-Dade Public Library System for thirty years, she initiated the Artmobile service and co-founded the Vasari Project, an archive of Miami’s art history from 1945 onward, with art critic and historian Helen L. Kohen. Over the years, she has curated hundreds of exhibitions with artists, galleries, and collectors from South Florida and other locales. Recently, she worked with Letter16 Press to publish a book RobertHuff: Cross Section. Currently, she is curating an expanded version of The Artful Book 2019, an exhibition of artist-made books by South Florida artists, which was installed at Miami’s LnS gallery and will be traveling to the Museum of Arts and Sciences Daytona Beach in the fall.
