A/A) (Artist as Archivist)

The Artist as Archivist project is a multidisciplinary platform that examines the relationships that exist between art, activism and archives. WAAM’s (Women Artist Archive Miami)  Artist as Archivist (A/A) project is a multidisciplinary residency platform that brings archival activism to the forefront by supporting artists who are using social art practices to document social inequities and community histories in Miami. These artists use diverse experimental platforms to rectify silences and critical gaps that exist in the archival record. In the ‘artist as archivist’ paradigm, artists take on the task of memory work as a form of political & social activism and become agents of cultural empowerment. With funding from the Knight Foundation's Arts Challenge grant and Oolite Arts' The Ellies, we are offering archival residents to six artists from 2022 - 2023.
