Description

Brochure for the exhibition, Mexican Folk Art, at the Metro-Dade Cultural Center in Miami, October 9- December 28, 1986. The second page of the brochure includes the following description: Mexican folk art is not only a reflection of Mexican culture, but rather the traditional art which reflects centuries of interaction between the art and lives of the people, and thus expresses not only beauty but purpose. Folk art is inspired by combining Christian iconography, Hispanic heritage, and indigenous Indian traditions. Add to these influences the geographic diversity of the country, and the result is folk art production which is notable for its vibrancy and disciplined gaudiness.
