Description

Leaflet for the exhibition, Miami Black Arts Workshop, at the South Miami Branch Library, February 3 – March 30, 1988. The second page of the leaflet reads: The Miami Black Arts Workshop, officially known as the Black Arts Council of Miami, began in 1969 on the University of Miami Campus. At that time, a group of Black art students became increasingly aware of the absence of works by Black artists, or even a knowledge of such works, in museums, galleries and publications purportedly devoted to the fine arts…Statistically, the workshop under the leadership of Roland Woods Jr. soon made its mark on the community, installing large, brightly colored 4 feet by 8 feet panels at strategic locations within the Coconut Grove Black neighborhoods.
