Description

Booklet for the exhibition, Cabo de Año for Abuela Fefa, curated by Eugenia Vargas in Miami, June 3, 2000. Installation and photographs by Charo Oquet, Film Collaboration (1986) with William Keddell and Steve Roach. The third page reads: The Cabo de Año is an Afro-Dominican funeral ritual that is held year-round in Villa Mella in the Dominican Republic. Oquet has been documenting and studying the rituals for several years. The ritual is very specific and complex. On the eve of the anniversary of her grandmother’s death she felt compelled to create this piece. In doing so she hopes to keep her memory alive while acknowledging her departure.
