Description

Catalog titled, Arrayanos Portraits, printed in Miami, 2018. The third page reads: These portraits are not meant to be a portrait of all Haitians or of all Dominican Haitian but rather a way of highlighting a community of people who are the descendants of Haitians who were brought to the Dominican Republic by the sugar cane industry to work in the sugar cane harvest since 1890. Most of the images were taken in the municipal district of San Luis, Santo Domingo where the Ozama sugarcane mil was situated until 10 years ago when it was dismantled, leaving most in the community jobless.
