Description

Brochure for two exhibitions, Some Special Books and Raymond Saunders: Paintings and Works on Paper (1974-1985), at the Metro-Dade Cultural Center in Miami, February 6 - April 26, 1986. The second page of the brochure includes the following description for Some Special Books: Some Special Books is a broad sampling of artists books selected from the Miami-Dade Public Library System fine arts collection. The collection is one that will continue to grow and be featured in various ways – unique works, limited editions and mass-produced items – in the Main Library’s third floor exhibition space. The third page of the brochure includes the following description for Raymond Saunders: Paintings and Works on Paper (1974-1985): Influenced by, but unbounded by geography or time, Raymond Saunders’ paintings and drawings are filled with vast silences. The mystery of these spaces is intensified by sudden explosions of rich color and line, the juxtapositioning of seemingly unrelated images or objects, delicate renderings of forms and lines somehow floating on the paper and canvas surfaces.
