Description
Brochure for the exhibition, The First Americas, at the Metro-Dade Cultural Center in Miami, July 2 - October 13, 1992. The second page of the brochure reads: In 1492, there were millions of people living in the Americas with diverse cultures and languages. Some lived in small groups and depended upon hunting for their existence, while others developed elaborate cities with sophisticated architecture and trade networks. In central America, the Maya had a more accurate calendar than the Europeans and an advanced system of mathematics as well. The textiles and objects created by the native people, The First Americas, reveal the richness of their cultures and aesthetics.
